Who We Are

We are a small family owned farm growing tea since 1970s. With some 35 acres of plantation, Jaubari Tea is an Estate tea garden meaning, we grow, harvest, crush /roll the leaves, ferment the leaves and package the tea ourselves. Our teas are grown in Ilam located in the eastern Himalayan foothills of Nepal. We also source the best teas from local gardens in Ilam. Our garden is organic and tea is authentic, rare, and hand-picked cultivated in the high elevation where the world’s finest teas are grown. Our Tea is a premium quality of tea without any flavorings or perfumes so you can have a genuine tea experience. We offer different varieties of tea grown in different seasons around the year.

Our garden is IMO Control certified by IMO Control Private Limited (IMO India). It is an independent certification body in India for organic agriculture that has been carrying out audits and certification since 1995.

Since the 1970s

“Being a small Tea garden, Jaubari Tea Estate is able to provide the special care and attention in each plant during every production cycle which is necessary for a higher quality of tea.”

In late 70s Basudev Koirala (Basu) began to realize his dream of farming tea in the 15-acres of former barley fields (Jau-bari in Nepali) in the eastern Himalayan foothills in Nepal. He inherited that land from his mother -Uttara Devi Koirala. Basu was among Nepal’s pioneering tea planting families. The tea plants were brought from neighboring Darjeeling. With the support of his lovely wife Meena Koirala, he worked very hard to establish the Jaubari Tea Garden. Basu also started motivating his neighbours to do the same in their land. At the beginning, people were not that positive because it was a new cultivation in the area but slowly, whole village joined the Tea movement.

Today with some 35 acres of plantation, Jaubari Tea is an Estate tea garden meaning, we grow, harvest, crush /roll the leaves, ferment the leaves and package the tea ourselves. The garden has also transitioned into the second generation of Koirala family; it is now run by his sons and daughters-in-law. The garden is organic, tea leaves are hand-picked, and being a small Tea garden, Jaubari Tea Estate is able to provide the special care and attention in each plant during every production cycle which is necessary for a higher quality of tea.

“We respect and support our amazingly hardworking farmers. Our goal is to promote local tea farmers and offer organic tea made with special care and love.”

Since 1970s, we have been blessed with these amazingly hardworking farmers. We now have 3 family-generation of farmers who work very hard to keep our tea garden organic and special.

Our teas are grown in high elevation. Elevation in Ilam district range between 140m to 3,363m above sea level. High elevation teas are know for their unique taste, aroma and flavor and to bring out that rich taste during every production, our farmers invest time, heart, and soul in each tea plant.

Currently, a huge number of Nepalese workers go abroad to work in the absence of fruitful local employment opportunities. At least 2.2 million Nepalis — nearly 10 percent of the population — work abroad, according to the Nepal Institute of Development Studies. As a new generation, we want to serve as pioneers in this transformation of youth unemployment in Nepal by providing employement to numbers of people in our tea garden. This way, in one hand we are supporting the national economy by producing high quality tea which can be exported and on the other hand we are increasing local job opportunities. We want to encourage our young tea farmers as much as possible so they don’t have to leave their home country for a basic salary. We respect and support our amazingly hardworking farmers. Our goal is to promote local tea farmers and offer organic tea made with special care and love.
